Have you ever visited your favorite restaurant and seen a new menu item, only to find that the item is 'sold out.' What if I told you that chances are the item never existed? The restaurant was likely testing consumer interest before launching the new menu item. Here's why.
A Fake Door Test is about rapidly validating an idea, it can be a product, a service, or a feature. Companies show users options that do not actually exist. After users take action, for example by clicking or registering,, the system lets them know that the feature, product or service is not yet available.
By measuring how many of the potential users showed interest, companies can make better decisions about the next step of the design process (e.g., implementing the idea, iterating based on the feedback and testing again) without the huge upfront investments.
